The first thing buzzed on my head when my friend, Andrianto Hapsoro, asked me to join his famous article is that the only thing I need to bring to office nowaday is a notebook and a modem that makes me connected to the internet. And it’s not even every day as sometime I come to office only with a thumb drive that keeps all the works files that I need.
But let’s check with the complete version now.
HP Hand bag
This is the original bag that I got as the package of my HP notebook. I used to wear a back pack, when I was an engineer, worked in one of the biggest MEP Company in Indonesia, but now, as the energy analyst for governments, I need a more formal bag. It comes as a handy choice and it’s water proof so I don’t need to worry about the things inside when the rain is coming. One more, it’s big so I can put tons of documents inside.
HP Pavilion dv2 Series Entertainment Notebook PC
Hell yeah! To be honest, this is a useless one. I do need a notebook for work, type all the proposals, research papers, emails, googling, etc, but I do not need high specification like this. I bought this when I was an engineer. AutoCAD 3D was my lunch so premium graphics was an obligatory for me. And as I travelled from one client to another client, from one project to another one, this light weight notebook was a perfect choice for me. It has an external DVD and it was good news for me, left few kg at home. But for now, I only work with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook. The things that notebook from last century can do fast too.
USB Modem CDMA EVDO Rev. A
USB Haier CE100 from Smart (now Smartfren) that I bought in August 2009. With 3.1 Mbps (download) and 1.8 Mbps (upload) only for IDR 90,000/month, I am quite satisfied with it. It makes me connected to the world only with plug and play wherever I am. Did I say wherever? I mean wherever as long as you are in the coverage area ;-). But now, I am thinking to have a new one. This CDMA modem didn’t work when I travelled overseas. CDMA is not a choice for us, a frequent overseas traveler, right? Moreover, my office now is covered with a free wi-fi. Modem is not needed anymore there. ;-)
What else on my bag?
A pencil case, a thumbler (yes, I drink a lot), and couple of books. Nowadays, I bring The 3rd ASEAN Energy Outlook, my last publication and three English’s books. I have a problem with my writing skill, so these books are lunch now.
Anything else?
Umbrella as Jakarta’s weather isn’t good recently and a pocket camera, the one that I used to take the picture above. I love to take some pictures on my daily life and post it to my blog, just for my memory.
And last, but not least, a cell phone, W205 from Sony Ericsson. I am not into a smart phone. For me, cell phone is only for making a call or texting.
But hey, all the things above are not working when I have to travel overseas. I will update you with that next time.
For now, that’s all. How about yours?
